A Show I'm in - Searcher - part 4
The final part of the Searcher at the Laguna Museum is the Segerstrom Gallery.
Installation was tough. The space has low ceilings and four big pillars. The pillars wind up being a great help by breaking up the space and allowing you to fit more work in there that you'd expect. The space wound up with nine pieces.

Diehard was first shown at the Miami Art Museum. It's made up of silkscreens of old racing stickers on a canvas camping tarp.

The turntable on the left drives the one on the right so it plays at one rotation per minute. It creates a deep drone that sounds like the rumble of the ocean or a distant car.
Way back in the day, as a fundraiser, the floor of the gallery was stamped with all sorts of different clubs, galleries and names. This one seemed appropriate.

A Show I'm in - Searcher - part 2
Searcher continues from Car 23 in the lobby of the Laguna Art Museum down a flight of stairs and into the basement. There's a short hallway along the stairs where I've installed several pieces.
The first piece is the Light Wood Light which was inspired by the sea urchins of the Pacific coast.

Next to the lamp is Lock It Up, a painting created using silk screens of magazine covers on wood, in this case 4Wheel Drive, Mountain Bike and Backpacker.

and as you continue down the hallway there's a cluster of Dark Wood Lights. The lights are made of the same wood as the magazine cover pieces and the insides are silk screened with magazine imagery.

A Show I'm in - Searcher - part 1
I have a solo show, Searcher, up at the Laguna Art Museum through January 23rd.
The show starts in the lobby with Car 23.
It's inspired by my dad's race cars of the late 60s/early 70s.
I initially created the car for my show HiLites at the Miami Art Museum back in 2008 (I'll give you a walk though of that show on a later date).
It didn't have an engine for the Miami show. It got a new engine days before the opening at Laguna and I'm looking forward to the end of the show and getting a chance to do some final touches on it.
Next up the stairway of the Laguna Art Museum
